Northern California Bay Area trout plants are in full swing - lots of big fish being caught at our local lakes. Lake Del Valle, Los Vaqueros Reservoir, Quarry Lakes, Lake Chabot, Lake Temescal, Contra Loma and Shadow Cliffs are all getting planted with nice size Lassen Trout.
My lure of choice is the mini-jig, this is a great lure when the fish are in shallow. However, bait and spoons are productive as well.
This 8.5lb trout was caught on a Sierra Slammers mini-jig, please note that do not hesitate to change out your mini-jig lure colors especially if you see them around and they are not biting. The color of choice here was Blue Shiner.
This was another trout caught on a mini-jig at Los Vaqueros Reservoir, catching trout on a mini-jig is a fun way to catch those planted trout.
Nice fat trout caught at Lake Del Valle on a mini-jig - always try different colors if your favorite color is not working, this one was fooled on black and purple mini jig.
